Legal

Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 15, 2026  ·  Receipted, Inc.

Receipted is built on the premise that you shouldn't have to hand over your bank credentials to track shared expenses. That same principle shapes how we handle your personal information: we collect what we need to make the app work, we don't sell it, and we tell you plainly what happens to it.

This policy covers the Receipted mobile application and the receipted.app website. By using Receipted, you agree to the practices described here.

1. What we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier. We use these to create your Receipted account, link you to your partner's account, and identify you within the app. We don't receive or store your Google password.

Partner information

When you invite a partner to join your shared space, we store their email address so we can link the two accounts. Your partner receives the same notice when they sign up.

Receipt photos and text

When you snap a receipt or type in a purchase description, that content is sent to our servers for processing. Receipt images are stored in Amazon S3. The raw text (extracted from the image or typed by you) and the parsed result are stored in our database.

Expense data

We store every expense you log: store name, date, individual line items, amounts, category assignments, who paid, and the calculated split between partners. This is the core data that makes the app work.

Payment records

When you record a settle-up payment between partners, we store the amount, date, direction (who paid whom), and any note you add.

Budget settings

Category names and monthly budget amounts you configure are stored and shared with your partner.

Usage data

We collect basic technical information: device type, operating system version, app version, and error logs. This helps us fix bugs and keep the app running. We don't build behavioral profiles or track you across other apps or websites.

2. How we use it

We use your information to:

  • Create and maintain your account and your shared couple space
  • Parse receipt photos and text into structured expense data
  • Calculate per-category spending, running balances, and settle-up amounts
  • Sync data between you and your partner in real time
  • Send you the one notification you asked for when the app launches (if you joined the waitlist)
  • Diagnose and fix technical problems
  • Improve the accuracy of receipt parsing over time

We don't use your expense data for advertising. We don't sell it. We don't use it to make inferences about you beyond what's needed to run the app.

3. Who we share it with

Your partner

Everything you upload is visible to the person you've linked with in Receipted. That's the point of the app. Before you invite someone, make sure you trust them with your financial information.

OpenAI

Receipt photos and text are sent to OpenAI's API to extract line items and category suggestions. OpenAI processes this data as a service provider under their API terms. We send only the content of the receipt — no account identifiers, names, or contact information. Review OpenAI's privacy practices at openai.com/privacy.

Amazon Web Services

We use AWS to store receipt images (S3) and structured data (DynamoDB). AWS acts as a data processor under a data processing agreement with us. Your data is stored in the United States.

Google

Sign-in is handled by Google. We receive only the basic profile information described above. Google's privacy policy governs what Google collects during authentication.

Legal requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Receipted, our users, or others.

Business transfers

If Receipted is acquired or merges with another company, your information may transfer as part of that transaction. We'll notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data retention

We keep your data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information and expense data within 30 days, except where we're required to retain it for legal or tax purposes.

Receipt images are deleted from S3 within 30 days of account deletion. Anonymized, aggregated data (e.g., "X% of users have a grocery budget") may be retained indefinitely — it can't be linked back to you.

5. Security

Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel. Receipt images stored in S3 are private — they're not accessible via public URL without a time-limited signed link generated on your behalf.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach that affects your personal information, we'll notify you as required by applicable law.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@receipted.app. We'll respond within 30 days.

Account deletion

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. Email us at privacy@receipted.app with the subject line "Delete my account."

Opting out of waitlist emails

Every waitlist email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us directly and we'll remove you immediately.

7. Children

Receipted is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at privacy@receipted.app and we'll delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We'll post any changes to this page and update the effective date at the top. For material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of Receipted after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
