Legal
Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of the Receipted mobile application and the receipted.app website. By creating an account, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Receipted.
We've written these in plain language. The legal substance is what matters, not the legalese — but if you have questions, email us at hello@receipted.app.
1. The service
Receipted is a receipt-tracking and expense-sharing app for couples. You snap a receipt, the app parses it line by line, assigns each item to a category, and keeps a running tally between you and your partner. That's what it does.
The app uses artificial intelligence to read and categorize receipts. The AI is good at this, but it's not perfect. You're responsible for reviewing the parsed results and correcting anything that looks wrong before saving an expense. Receipted is a tool to help you track spending — not a certified financial record or an accounting system.
2. Your account
You need a Google account to sign in. You're responsible for keeping your account secure. Don't share your login credentials with anyone other than your partner, and even then — your partner creates their own account and links to yours via an invite code.
You must be at least 18 years old to use Receipted. By creating an account, you confirm that you are.
You can only link with one partner at a time. If your relationship changes and you need to start a new shared space, contact us at hello@receipted.app.
3. Your content
You own the receipts, photos, and expense data you upload. We don't claim ownership of your content.
By uploading content to Receipted, you give us a limited license to store it, process it (including sending it to OpenAI for parsing), and display it to you and your partner within the app. That license ends when you delete your account or the specific content.
You're responsible for the content you upload. Don't upload anything illegal, harmful, or that you don't have the right to share. Receipts and expense notes should reflect real purchases — Receipted isn't a tool for fabricating financial records.
4. What you can and can't do
You can
- Use Receipted for your own personal expense tracking with a partner
- Upload photos of receipts from your own purchases
- Edit and correct AI-parsed results
- Export or request a copy of your data at any time
You can't
- Use Receipted for commercial expense tracking or reimbursement filing on behalf of a business
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or access the app outside of its intended interface
- Upload content that violates someone else's privacy or that you don't have the right to share
- Create multiple accounts to circumvent any restrictions
- Use Receipted in any way that violates applicable law
5. AI-assisted parsing
When you upload a receipt photo or text, we send it to OpenAI's API to extract line items, amounts, categories, and other details. The result is a best-effort interpretation — not a guaranteed accurate transcription.
Always review the parsed result before saving. If the AI misreads a price or assigns the wrong category, correct it before tapping save. Receipted is not liable for financial decisions made based on incorrectly parsed data that you didn't review.
We don't use your receipt data to train AI models. OpenAI's API terms govern how they handle the data we send them.
6. Shared data and your partner
Everything you upload in Receipted is visible to your linked partner. This is intentional — the whole app is built around shared visibility. Before linking with someone, make sure you're comfortable sharing your purchase history with them.
If your partner relationship ends and you want to separate your data, contact us at hello@receipted.app. We'll help you unlink accounts and, where technically possible, separate your data.
Receipted is not responsible for any disputes between partners about expense data, balances, or settle-up amounts. We provide the tools — the conversation is yours to have.
7. Not financial advice
Receipted helps you track spending. It is not a bank, a financial advisor, or an accounting service. Nothing in the app constitutes financial, tax, or legal advice. Don't use Receipted as your only record for tax purposes or financial planning.
8. Availability and changes
We work hard to keep Receipted running, but we can't promise it'll be available 100% of the time. We may update, change, or temporarily take down parts of the app for maintenance or improvements.
We may add, change, or remove features over time. If we make a change that significantly affects how the app works, we'll let you know in advance where possible.
We reserve the right to discontinue Receipted entirely, with reasonable notice to users.
9. Termination
You can stop using Receipted and delete your account at any time. Email hello@receipted.app to request account deletion.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, use the app in a way that harms other users or the service, or if we're required to do so by law. We'll give you notice where possible, but we reserve the right to act immediately if the situation requires it.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Receipted is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties — express or implied — about the app's accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Receipted, Inc. is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the app. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of Receipted is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim (which, during our free beta, is $0).
Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations. If you're in one of them, the above may not fully apply to you.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising from these terms will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We'll post the new version here with an updated effective date. For material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated terms.
